The future - BE GOING TO


Good morning Year 5 pupils! Do you remember the future with WILL? Well, today we are going to learn a new future tense, a future we use for plans and intentions: BE GOING TO.

Now, let´s see how to use BE GOING TO in affirmative, negative or interrogative. Copy this in you notebook:

FUTURE - BE GOING TO
  • Affirmative
SUBJECT + TO BE (am/is/are) + GOING TO + VERB IN INFINITIVE + COMPLEMENTS

For example: I am going to go to the park.
  • Negative
SUBJECT + TO BE IN NEGATIVE (am not, isn't, aren't) + GOING TO + VERB IN INFINITIVE + COMPLEMENTS

For example: My dad isn't going to travel to New York.
  • Interrogative
TO BE (am/is/are) + SUBJECT + GOING TO + VERB IN INFINITIVE + COMPLEMENTS + ?

For example: Are you going to eat that apple?
